Hey there, Valentine! Amazon offers a great way for you to share the love while you're shopping for your someone special.
Just sign into AmazonSmile (instead of Amazon), select Watermark Institute as your beneficiary and the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of all your eligible purchases to support Watermark's mission of increasing the number of women in leadership positions.
Now that's something to smile about! Happy Valentine's Day!
Wow, Women of Watermark and the Men Who Get It: What a great way to start the year!
The overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to last week’s sold-out Watermark Conference for Women, right on the heels of the incredible Women’s March, shows that this is our time. Now more than ever, women must pull together, help one another (thank you, Madeleine Albright) and make our voices heard.
We also must increase the number of women in leadership positions – the very mission of Watermark. For more than 24 years, we have launched and fostered initiatives to connect, develop and advocate for the advancement of women in the workplace. Our Watermark Conference for Women is one of those initiatives.
We continue to hear wonderful feedback about last week’s keynotes, breakouts and the Expo Center. If you missed our favorite photos and tweets, check them out on our blog.
And mark your calendars: Our next Watermark Conference is set for Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. Tickets will go on sale later this year.
Welcome New Members!
We’re thrilled by the number of new members who have joined our Watermark community. Now is your time to use your Watermark membership to your advantage.
Come to our events – yes, traffic is a challenge, but believe me, it’s worth it (and there’s wine upon arrival). Dial into our webinars. Network and stay connected with other members. And ask your company to bring our exclusive corporate programs to your campus.
Watermark Portal: New Job Openings
One of the many benefits of Watermark membership is our new-and-improved member portal. Sign in, update your member profile and check out our new Career Center, featuring job openings from Xilinx, Equinix and Talas Engineering. Have a look at who’s looking for you – and if your company has open jobs, please list them with us. What better candidates than Watermark women?
A Range of Events
Our Watermark Conference is one of more than 50 events we hold each year. We’ve held two WLUs, a webinar and our Women of the C-Suite Network gathering since then!
Our next big event is Own It: The Power of Women at Work with Sallie Krawcheck, 6-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 at Samsung in San Jose. This is one that you don’t want to miss! Sallie is a powerhouse and a fantastic speaker. She’ll highlight how the unique strengths and traits that women bring to the workplace make a positive economic difference – and how we can use those qualities to further catapult our careers.
Partners in Advocacy
Along with connecting our members and rolling out any number of leadership development programs, Watermark continues to move the dial forward in advocacy. Our work with CCL, support of Paradigm for Parity and our Watermark Index, Make Your Mark Awards and our commitment to girls’ leadership programs are a few of the many projects we’re constantly working on. We need your help! If you’d like to get even more involved in Watermark, send us an email and we’ll put you to work! We’re always in need of volunteers.
Let Us Know How Else We Can Help
Remember: Watermark is here for our members in good times and in bad. We support you on your way up – and we’re here for you during those inevitable career setbacks that we all have faced. Our Board of Directors, Ambassadors, C-Suite Leads, WLU Leads and, of course, our hard-working staff members, are always available to help.
You never know when a relationship that you’ve developed through Watermark will open a door that you never thought possible. Just ask any one of us. We all have great Watermark stories to tell.
Watermark works – and we’re here to help you make your membership work for you.
Here’s to the rest of Q1 – let’s keep going, stronger than ever.
If you were one of the 6,500 Watermark members, colleagues and friends who joined us at our Feb. 1 Watermark Conference for Women Silicon Valley, chances are you’re still talking about the powerful keynotes by Shawn Achor, Annie Clark and Viola Davis (“own your story”) and the incredible conversations between Kara Swisher and Sheryl Sandberg – and wow, the chance to see former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice on stage together? How great!
Trending Topic on Twitter, #1 and #2
The San Jose Convention Center was sold out, with participants celebrating the theme: The Power of Us: Amplify Your Voice. We amplified our voices so much that we were the #2 trending topic on Twitter (congrats, Bey!), and at one point during the day, we reached #1!
Here’s how a few participants described the conference:
“I felt like I was a part of history.”
“What a PHENOMENAL day of learning, listening, leaning in, absorbing, becoming enlightened and inspired, exploring new emotions, amplifying my voice and meeting amazing kindred spirits – women and men. I am recharged and re-energized to have a positive impact in all of my interactions – professionally and personally.”
“A truly remarkable conference.”
“The personal stories came out from each and every speaker (keynote and breakouts), and they all showed success as a result. Thank you for this rare opportunity, and for empowering us always.”
Watermark Conference in the News
If you missed the media coverage – more than 40 reporters (including from BBC World News, BuzzFeed, Fortune, NBC National, Huffington Post, Bay Area News Group, Politico, San Francisco Chronicle, Silicon Valley Business Journal, Girls in Tech, NBC Bay Area, KPIX-5 and KCBS) were there – here are a few highlights:
Watermark Trial Membership
We had great response to our Watermark Trial Membership – welcome new members! If you didn’t have a chance to sign up, there’s still time! The conference is just one of the more than 50 fantastic events we hold each year. Watermark members receive discounts along with other fantastic benefits. So join us! It’s a six-month membership for just $99. Deadline: Feb. 8. Ready to sign up for a full year? Check out our full membership options.
Thank You, Everyone!
Many thanks to all for another outstanding Watermark Conference for Women – especially to our sponsors and volunteers, and to everyone for sharing #WatermarkConf via social media. What a great day!
These events offer valuable Watermark networking opportunities where you can connect with other Watermark women who live or work near you. Discussions at our WLUs help move conversations quickly past polite small talk – and straight to the heart – where all real connections happen.
Non-members are welcome to attend up to two WLUs before deciding on membership.

This past weekend, we experienced the strength of our numbers and the importance of our amplified voices as millions of women, men and children across the United States and all over the world came together to celebrate the power of women.
At Watermark, we celebrate the power of women every day.
As you know, we are a non-partisan, non-profit organization with a very clear mission: to increase the number of women in leadership positions. Regardless of political affiliation, more women in leadership positions is a mission we all support.
And we need your help.
Now is a great time to further demonstrate your support for Watermark by joining our Leadership Circles. Your investment helps us expand our ability to connect, develop and advocate for women in the workplace and, through our support of girls' leadership programs, to ensure a well-qualified workforce for the future.
As part of this exclusive group, your name will be added to our Leadership Circles webpage and included in our other promotional materials. You'll also receive invitations to Watermark Leadership Circles special events and offers.

Watermark is thrilled to announce our new Marketing and Events law extern, Asha Zahrt!
Asha is finishing her last year of law school at the University of the Pacific-McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. You probably met her at our Make Your Mark Awards in November or at our Pivot with Jenny Blake event in December. You'll get to see her again this week at our Gender Balance event at NetApp!
Asha is a dynamo, no doubt about it. She completed her required coursework in only two and a half years – it typically takes three. So now she's free to focus on Watermark, building her Bay Area professional network and studying for the July 2017 bar exam. Upon graduation and passing the bar, Asha would like to work in the Bay Area as a corporate attorney. She already has plenty of experience, working in various corporate G&A legal departments throughout Silicon Valley and launching two businesses, herself.
"Watermark's goals match my own – especially when it comes to encouraging entrepreneurship and advocating for advancement of women in the workplace," Asha says. “I am excited to join this team of exceptional people who care about our community and making sure that women are represented at the top levels of organizations."
