At the 2017 Watermark Leadership Conference, we had the opportunity to speak with Lauren Goode, a senior technology editor at the Verge who has covered and interviewed tech leaders for nearly a decade. Lauren was very excited to interview Gladys Kong, CEO of UberMedia, at the conference.
When asked about the greatest challenges that women face in tech, Lauren immediately replied, "How much time do I have?" Lauren addressed the "pipeline problem" of getting women into tech, but also explained the issue of retaining women in tech roles, encouraging tech companies to ensure that women are fulfilled and growing their careers.
Lauren stressed the importance of talking about the issue of gender inequality in tech. When reaching out to companies for interviews, Lauren often specifically asks to speak with female executives and engineers and consciously strives to strike the right balance when quoting male and female sources.
Lauren co-hosts "Too Embarrassed to Ask" with well-known tech journalist Kara Swisher, describing Kara as a "force of nature" who encouraged her to be decisive and ask for what she wants. Lauren is also hosting and producing the new Verge video series "Next Level." The series is "all about next-level innovation," offering a inside look into the development of products that "have the potential to really impact our technology lives in a major way."
